A face lift, or rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that reduces visible signs of ageing in the face and neck. These signs may include sagging facial skin, lines and wrinkles between the nose and the corner of the mouth (nasolabial), excess skin or fat in the neck, a double chin, or other aesthetic features.

A face lift reduces wrinkles and sagging skin on the face and neck caused by ageing or weight loss. The procedure removes excess skin, tightens the underlying muscles, and reshapes the skin in a higher position. The results go beyond what can be expected from wrinkle-fighting injections like Botox, different types of lifts such as cheek lifts or mini lifts addressing specific concerns.

Why should I have my procedure performed in Aesthehealth Hospitals?

Face lift and neck lift operations require great experience in these surgical fields. As the face is the most visible part of the body, the results of the operation must be faultless. Aesthehealth Hospitals’ experienced team of aesthetic surgeons have performed thousands of face and neck lift procedures over many years. They use the most up-to-date methods and the best equipment available. You can meet one of our surgeons to discuss any concerns you may have. They are also happy to discuss the methods and techniques they use and your needs and expectations.

Should I have a full surgical lift or are there any other options?

Face and neck lift procedures can be performed using various methods. Some of those methods are surgical. Some of them are not, such as thread lifting, ultherapy and French lift. Results will differ depending on the method used. Your surgeon should understand your expectations and recommend the method that will best suit your needs. Face and neck lift surgeries are sometimes combined with liposuction in the neck. Fat can also be injected into the face (lipofilling) alongside a facelift to enhance results and achieve a more youthful look.

Are they painful procedures? What are the post-operation processes like?

Everyone has different pain thresholds. Thanks to modern medicine, pain management is now very straightforward and patients are much more comfortable during operations and in the post-operative period. A face lift or neck lift can be a slightly longer procedure than other aesthetic surgeries. Surgeons may also use a compression garment or bandages immediately after surgery. Any pain or discomfort should begin to decrease approximately 48 hours after surgery. Bruising and swellings are normal but will also fade relatively quickly.

Where are the face lift scars placed and are they noticeable?

Most of the incisions for a face lift start above the hairline and extend in a natural line to the front of the ear. They continue behind the earlobe to the lower scalp inside the hairline. The marks are generally hidden behind the hairline or in a natural crease. Once the scars have softened and matured over a period of several months, they are generally not very noticeable to the untrained eye. You may also have a small incision under your chin if work is being done in the neck area.

How long will it be before I can be in public without anyone knowing I’ve had surgery?

Your face will be bruised and swollen immediately after surgery. Your features may be distorted from the swelling and your facial movements may be slightly limited. Some swelling and bruising may persist for 2-3 weeks. Most patients are back at work 10-14 days after surgery. However, you may still have some residual bruising and swelling that may need to be camouflaged with makeup or covering.

How much time should I plan to take off work and how soon can I exercise again?

Normal activities, including work, can usually be resumed within two weeks. Any strenuous exercise must be postponed for at least 4-6 weeks, and sun exposure must be limited for several months.

How long will a face lift last?

A face lift usually lasts 7-to-10 years. Some patients decide to have the procedure repeated at a certain point, while others do not feel that this is necessary.
